Melissa Chiappetta provides monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) advisory services to Athena Infonomics. She is an international development MEL expert with 14 years of experience conducting evaluations and 20 years of experience managing projects. Ms. Chiappetta specializes in research, evaluation, and measurement of education and agricultural projects, but she has worked across all international development sectors. Currently, she is working with the UNESCO Institute of Statistics to advance global measurement of reading and math outcomes for primary- and secondary-grade learners. She recently served as Senior Research and Learning Advisor for USAID’s Reading and Literacy Team. Prior to joining USAID, Ms. Chiappetta created and led Abt Associates’ Center for International Evaluation. In this role, she grew Abt’s international research and evaluation portfolio by more than 200 percent, including by leading a bid to win Abt’s first international education evaluation contract (worth more than $14 million). Prior to joining Abt, Ms. Chiappetta served as Director of Impact Evaluation at Social Impact, where she provided technical oversight for dozens of evaluations and led business development decisions, overseeing a portfolio of clients. Ms. Chiappetta has served as a technical team member or manager for more than 40 performance and impact evaluations across several sectors, including evaluations for USAID, MCC, and the State Department, and she has served as lead trainer for more than one-dozen 3-14-day monitoring and evaluation workshops. Ms. Chiappetta has a Master’s degree from Georgetown University and has experience in approximately 25 countries.
