Impact Investing in Urban Sanitation
FCDO IMPACT Programme

Athena Infonomics, in partnership with Open Capital Advisors, is developing an investment tool for the urban sanitation market, under the FCDO-IMPACT Programme.

Private-sector participation is integral to sanitation service delivery in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, especially amidst rapid urbanisation and stretched public resources. Funding gap for SDG 6 emphasises the need for non-public sources of financing. The tool is designed to help different categories of development investors, including commercial lending institutions, to price the risk of sanitation investments better.

The investment tool will be anchored with such investors and will be pilot-tested in March 2021 with real-data from shortlisted sanitation businesses in Kenya and India.
