Connecting the Dots: Empowering Legislators to Strengthen Local Action on Low Carbon Development
The British High Commission

How can we increase legislators' environmental awareness to affect climate decision making?

Athena designed the Connecting the Dots programme to build engagement between key legislators. It connected two Indian states: Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh with parliamentarians in the UK. The programme therefore sought to strengthen UK-India relations on climate change and increase legislators' environmental awareness. It created a network of climate champions by developing a web-based climate tool for legislators. It additionally ensured information was relevant by engaging at the grassroots level, along with legislators, local state governments and parastatal bodies. The web based platform also provided crucial information on: socio-economic and climatic information about the programme districts, funding options, information and knowledge sharing, and key resource tool-kits on climate proofing political decisions.
