Toilet construction: assessing the supply side ecosystem in Ghana

With poor toilet adoption in Ghana, Athena is assessing the supply side ecosystem for household toilet construction/installation. In collaboration with the World Bank and Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP), the study seeks to understand the issues and challenges faced by supply-side implementers. This includes sanitation MSMEs and sub-project implementers working with the local assemblies, along with the Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGPCU). The study thereby identifies actionable solutions to support quicker implementation of the GAMA Sanitation and Water Project. It will also offer solutions for broader sanitation interventions in Ghana. It involved interviews with sanitation MSMEs and their suppliers, financial institutions, and municipal metropolitan assemblies in Accra and Kumasi.
