Ananya is passionate about helping to increase access to improved sanitation. He has supported the Government of Odisha, India to become a flagbearer of non-sewered sanitation. Ananya previously worked in government and public sector consulting at EY, serving as the technical lead in the Technical Support Unit to the Government of Odisha.

He has also supported the Government of Odisha in the data-driven performance management of Solid Waste Management through a product named Ama Sahara, which serves as a foundation for the Honourable Chief Minister's Cleanest City Award. In addition, Ananya helped bring financial sustainability to cities and towns in the state by supporting them in improving their own revenue through a program called the Municipal Premiere League (MPL). Throughout this time, he worked with the Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy.

Ananya has authored several chapters in the publication Faecal Sludge and Septage Management in Urban Areas: Service and Business Models for NITI Aayog and the NFSSM Alliance and has published two papers on non-sewered sanitation. He earned a B.Tech in Civil Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Silchar and his post-graduation in Engineering Project Management from the University of Leeds, UK.
