Soumya Alamuru is a Senior Consultant in the AI and Digital Public Infrastructure (AI+DPI) practice at Athena Infonomics, where she combines her expertise in economics, technology, and storytelling to build inclusive, data-driven solutions.

Before joining Athena, Soumya worked as a consultant at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), contributing to macroeconomic modeling and fiscal policy analysis. She later transitioned to journalism with BBC News India, reporting on social and economic issues, and most recently worked in the United States on developing and evaluating large language models (LLMs) in Telugu and mathematical economics.

Soumya holds a PhD in Applied Economics from the University of Hyderabad. She is deeply interested in how AI and digital tools can be localized to empower communities and make governance more participatory and equitable.
