The Eastern and Southern Africa Water and Sanitation (ESAWAS) Regulators Association recently released a landmark study on water supply and sanitation (WSS) regulation across Africa, based on assessments of 54 country cases.

This study, conducted by Aguaconsult (prime), Athena Infonomics, and Emanti Management, argues that, though a well-functioning regulatory system is vital to the delivery of safe and reliable WSS services, there is no single "best-practice" or "one-size-fits-all" approach to regulating such service delivery. With this in mind, the study seeks to build an understanding of common challenges and trends, and highlight good practices for replication in countries looking to improve WSS regulation or institute necessary reforms.

On June 21, 2022, Principal Consultant Maya Gainer represented Athena during a webinar that considered findings from the study.
